Slow Food Boulder Reads
If you love reading novels where recipes tell part of the story;
memoirs where the ingredients of life and favorite foods are carefully measured and combined; and travelogues that bring the kitchens of the world into yours, you’re going to love Slow Food Reads!
Every other month Slow Food Reads will gather for just that – the meeting of culinary-inspired minds
for discussion of food-centric books while we feast from its pages.
Please check the Calendar for information about upcoming Slow Reads.  We hope to see you there.

Slow Food Boulder • Bison Nation
RAFT

The Renewing America’s Food Traditions Project

To document, restore, and celebrate the incredible diversity of America's edible plants, animals,
and food traditions, seven of the most prominent food, agriculture, education and conservation
organizations in the United States came together under Slow Food USA to launch RAFT, the country's
first eco-gastronomic conservation project.
Uniting gastronomy’s emphasis on food quality and cultural traditions with conservationists’ knowledge of agricultural biodiversity and their imperative to preserve it, RAFT projects work with farmers, chefs, and consumers to develop and promote conservation strategies, sustainable food production, public policy initiatives, and market based incentives.

...and we in the Rocky Mountain region are Bison Nation!
We have recently returned from our first regional Bison Nation meeting in Colorado Springs,
where our Governor, Matt Jones, introduced our region to the plans for bringing
this new regional designation to our convivium and our work with Slow Food.
We will keep you informed here of our Bison Nation!

Boulder's Slow Food convivium (Latin for "feast") began in 1996 in Charlie Papazian's
(founder of The Association of Brewers) tee pee off Plateau Road.
Peggy Markel, director of the Italian cooking school La Cucina al Focolare, in Italy, had met—and was inspired by—Carlo Petrini, who founded the International Slow Food Movement in 1986 when a McDonald’s restaurant opened in Rome.
Peggy brought Carlo's vision back to Boulder and planted the seed of the first Slow Food convivium in the United States, collaborating with a small group of like minded friends and culminating with formal membership status in 1997. Everyone with taste buds is welcome to join. This is not another gourmet food club. It’s a place for people with a passion for safeguarding local farms, food traditions, and artisan foods to gather and build culture and community. We invite anyone who wants to get involved, be educated, and rediscover pleasure in everyday life by slowing down and learning to appreciate the convivial traditions of the table.

Today, Boulder Slow Food hosts a number of events,
from potlucks and $10 tasting's to $75 benefit dinners...
with most events in the $30 range,
as well as a free annual gathering.
Take a taste of the some of the wonderful events we’ve had in the past
and check our calendar of events for this year's activities.

Although non-members are invited to many Slow Food Boulder events at a somewhat higher rate,
becoming a member allows you to enjoy a number of wonderful benefits.
And, it also allows you the opportunity to get involved, help us choose or host events,
and join a passionate group of like-minded people in support of the Slow Food mission!
