Slow Food Boulder County

Good food. Good people. A slower, richer way of life.
The Problem

In a fast-food world, we’re losing our connection to where food comes from — and the joy of sharing it.

Our Mission

Slow Food Boulder County, part of Slow Food USA, believes everyone should have access to food that is good for them, good for the people who grow it, and good for the planet.

Our Story

We were one of the first Slow Food chapters in the U.S., started in 1997 in a teepee outside Boulder. Peggy Markel, inspired by Carlo Petrini and her time in Italy, brought the Slow Food vision home — planting the seed for a movement that’s still growing. Early members raised funds for local food education and supported groups like ¡Cultiva!, where at-risk youth grew and shared organic food with the community.

Who We Are Today

We’re a welcoming community of people passionate about protecting local foodways, traditions, and culture. Together, we rediscover the pleasure of slowing down and savoring the table.

Our Vision

We envision a future where everyone has access to healthy, delicious, and culturally diverse food. We champion those who grow, produce, and serve locally sourced food, recognizing them as the foundation of a resilient and equitable food system.
